Customizing Your Order and Determining Size

If you really want your graphic to standout, you need to customize it. Maybe adding an outline, or possibly a shadow to give it a 3-d effect. Size also plays an important part in determining an overall design. All of these, and more, are built into the customized order form. I'll explain each of the elements you can choose from.

Let's start with Size. Since graphics can be made in any size, it's (nearly) impossible to list all of the combinations. When ordering "designs," defined as graphics without words or logo elements, the size can be skewed to virtually any size and still look great. See the example below:

At 4 inches high and 21 inches long, the graphic looks like this:

At 4 inches high and 40 inches long, the graphic is "sleeker" and longer:

No Problem! If a size you need is not listed, simply make a Special Request.

However, when ordering graphics made of logo's, words and other artwork, size must be increased proportionally to the design.

For example: looks fine at 2 inches X 4.5 inches, 3 X 6.7, 4 X 8.9 and so on. If a non-proportional size is tried such as 2 X 8 inches, the graphic ends up looking like this: ...more of a Captain Kirk looking emblem and not an accurate representation of the logo. It can be much more severe with other dimensions. It is for this reason these types of graphics are sold by height only. Width will vary based on the layout of the graphic. If you are working with a tight spot, note in the online order forms' Comments/Questions/Suggestions box that you would like the overall dimensions e-mailed to you. I will send those to you for confirmation before cutting the design.

Next, let's look at Graphic Effects.

Mirrored Pair

Many times you will want to order a pair of designs, one for each side of your car or boat. When ordering you will see some graphics come as Mirrored Pairs (the Side Kits are an example of this). You will receive two decals of identical size "mirrored."

TIP! - Use "SideKits" on the hood or other surface. Since they are symetrical they can be placed, in the shape of a 'V' for example, and make for a very nice design!

Outline

Outlining is the most common way to make any graphic element standout. By adding an outline, you achieve several different design enhancements:

  1. You can introduce a second complementary color that enhances the look of the main graphic.
  2. The graphic looks more finished and "technical."
  3. Makes the graphic standout and looks better overall.

Once you have seen some graphics with outlines, you'll know what I mean. It takes longer to do (covered in my Installation Guide) and costs a little more, but the overall effect, (I believe) is worth it. When requesting an outline, you will receive two graphics. Your primary graphic will be cut to the size requested, the outline color will be approximately 1/10th of an inch larger. I've found a 1/10th of an inch to work the best. It allows enough room to align the graphics easily and provides a nice edge to any size graphic.

The installation of an outline is exactly the same way you install a standard graphic, however, the outline color is installed first. You simply position the second graphic on top of the bottom layer equally from all of the edges. The top layer graphic is provided with clear transfer tape, so you can make your alignment easily! Using application fluid provided, you can position and reposition your graphic until it's perfect. I advise you read my Installation Guide for complete tips and how to's.

Shadow

Another great way to make your graphic elements standout is introduce a shadow effect. When you combine graphics that are outlined, throw in some shadowed elements, you'll have very professional and "tight" overall design. When you select the Shadow option, a second graphic will be included with your order cut specifically to create a shadow effect. A unique product that I offer is "shadow vinyl." This vinyl is specially formulated and slightly transparent, so the actual color of the surface shows through. This provides a realistic shadow effect. It makes the graphic look like it's floating and casting a real shadow on the surface. Very cool.

The installation of a shadow is straight forward. Similar to an outline, the shadow layer is installed first. The second layer allows an overlap of about 1/10th of an inch and is produced with clear transfer tape to make your alignment easy. I advise you read my Installation Guide for complete tips and how to's.

Flying Letters

I call this effect Flying Letters, since it resembles letters literally flying off the surface due to extreme speed. This effect can be added to any of the font styles in the Create Your Own Area. You can expect this effect to add about 20-30% to the length of the graphic and 15-20% to the height of the graphic. Here's an example of the effect.

Speed Slant

Another great font-related effect, I call Speed Slanting. I apply an overly aggressive italics-type effct to a word, giving it the effect it's getting blown back. You can request a Left Speed Slant or Right Speed Slant. This works well when words are used on each side of a vehicle- both graphics will give the effect of forward motion. And the best part, there's no charge for the "slant." Visit Create Your Own to get started. Here's an example:

Speed Slant Left

Lastly, if you've found a graphic, but the dimensions are not what you need, or just have a unique request, visit the Special Requests area. There you will find everything you need to get your custom request underway!
